Ethics at Workplace with Heartfulness Intervention Leading to Sustainability

The organizational landscape is rapidly evolving; the function of human resource management has also evolved beyond the original administrative functioning to include the cultivation of ethical workplace culture, which further promotes sustainable development. According to Friedman (1970), the main focus of organizational success is to make an impact on society on the wellbeing of employees, ethical culture and corporate social responsibility. Consequently, there has been an increasing interest in exploring unique ways to integrate holistic practices in an effective way to inculcate ethical workplace environments and sustainable development, Tejinder (2024).
Integrating ethical frameworks into the workplace is essential to developing a climate of respect, responsibility, and integrity. This study investigates how Heartfulness meditation practices can improve employees' ethical behavior. Heartfulness meditation provides a distinctive method for developing higher consciousness and compassionate leadership because of its emphasis on a balanced existence. Balanced means to be free from the emotional turbulence caused by any stressful situation. This higher thinking can be achieved only after the level of self-actualization in the ‘hierarchy of needs’ as mentioned by Maslow (1943). The stages in the pyramid of the hierarchy, as shown by the well-known psychologist AH Maslow, can be achieved when organizations can help to provide an environment for employees to develop holistically. When employees feel safe and secure, they will have better self-esteem and feel a sense of belonging. Then it becomes easier for organizations to implement ethical values into the work culture using appropriate means and methods.
