This study explores the significance of sacred groves, known as Kaavus, in Kerala, South India, highlighting their cultural, ecological, and social roles amidst rising temperatures and urban pressures. Through field visits and qualitative interviews, the research investigates the physical and cultural features of selected sacred groves Valliyoorkkavu, Eravat Kandi Dharmabhagavathy Temple grove, Kavanur Kizhakkepurakkal Kaavu, and Iringole Kavu emphasizing their contributions to biodiversity conservation and climate regulation. Findings reveal that these ecosystems serve as important habitats for flora and fauna, aid in soil and water conservation, and preserve traditional cultural practices. The study underscores the urgency of community involvement and effective policy frameworks to ensure the sustainability of sacred groves for future generations.
